Bildad, one of Job’s friends who visits him, says that man is inferior to God, rebuking Job for his suffering. Job returns the rebuke in chapter 26, saying that Bildad has wasted wisdom on the weak and powerless.

Matthew Henry’s Commentary on Job 26:1-4

One would not have thought that Job, when he was in so much pain and misery, could banter his friend as he does here and make himself merry with the impertinency of his discourse. Bildad thought that he had made a fine speech, that the matter was so weighty, and the language so fine, that he had gained the reputation both of an oracle and of an orator; but Job peevishly enough shows that his performance was not so valuable as he thought it and ridicules him for it.

Reflection

In spite of all that the Lord has allowed to happen to Job, Job proclaims that he will not cease to be an honest man. He would remain integritous and keep his lips from cursing God – even though his own wife (under the influence of Satan) questioned why he continued in faith without blaming God and told him to curse God and die.

Then his wife said to him, “Do you still cling to your integrity [and your faith and trust in God, without blaming Him]? Curse God and die!” Job 2:29 AMP

Today is Father’s Day. Job lost all of his children in a single day, during his plight at Satan’s hands. Losing a child is something no parent should have to face. This Father’s day, may the hearts of children be turned to their Fathers’. And may the hearts of Fathers be turned to their children. The more we love each other, the greater our purpose on the earth – to enrich each others’ lives.

In the Bible, God is the Father of man.

Then God said, “Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over everything that creeps and crawls on the earth.” Genesis 1:26 AMP

By virtue of who our Father is, we are all spirit. We are heirs to righteousness because our heritage is holy. We can make a righteous affirmation that we are the sons and daughters of God; and therefore, our lives are meaningful in the earth. The Creator of all mankind justifies our existence as His instruments, created to praise Him. May our relationships with our natural Fathers be rooted in this reverent way.
