A Few Good Women

The Marines have a slogan, “A few good men.” My subject today is, “A few good women.” Because God is looking for a few good men; but sometimes, it takes a good woman to stir up his gift. God is looking for a few good women to be an encouragement; to teach others how not to tear down the people of God with words; to stop the gossip chain before it starts, and to be an example of the Proverbs 31 woman.

A good woman does not have to complain about what someone else does not do. She asks God in earnest, “Lord, what would you have me to do?” And when He gives her direction, she lets her answer be, “Yes, Lord, yes.”

Essential Thought

God can use the willing working in His vineyard. He instructed various women in fulfilling His purpose. They are worthy of honor with their brethren.

Declaration

I want all of the ladies – just the ladies, to look at someone and say, “I am a Good Woman.” Now, I want all of the men – just the men, to look at someone and say, “I am a Good Man.” How many of you believe that Jesus is coming back again? He’s coming for a church without a spot or wrinkle. How does He prepare us for His return? It happens right here. Learn how to be a good man or a good woman in the eyes of Christ. First, you must accept Christ as your Savior. Then, He can teach you how to clean and press your life’s robe. Are you dressed for eternity?

The Proverbs 31 woman

A good woman needs to be like that woman in Proverbs 31, whose “…price is far above rubies.” Every word she says is wisdom. Everything she does is peaceful. And I believe in my sanctified mind that she can help hold up the arms of Moses. She can help hold up the arms of the pastor. Because the Bible says, in that 17th verse of Proverbs 31…

She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

If it would have said, “… girded and strengthened…” with an “ed” at the end, I would not be so excited; because that would have meant that she did it in the past, but it’s old news. But the Word says, “…she girdeth; and strengtheneth…” with an “eth” at the end. That means repeatedly. That means, continually. So, she can be a helper; and she can be a leader, because she can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth her – repeatedly, and continually.

A good woman is not weak-minded. She does not carry the gossip of the day. See, if you really read about the Proverbs 31 woman, you will see that she is much too busy doing the right things, to have time for the mess that cripples the body of Christ. The Bible says in Ephesians 6:12…

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

The Proverbs 31 woman is right there in the battle, along with the brethren. She does not try to overtake them. Nevertheless, when the arms of Moses get a little bit weary, she is right there saying, “Hold on brother,” and, “You can make it.”

The Prophetess

The Bible says in Judges, the 4th chapter (starting with the first verse)…

“1 And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, when Ehud was dead. 2 And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host was Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles. 3 And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel. 4 And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time. 5 And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment. 6 And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedeshnaphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun? 7 And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand. 8 And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go. 9 And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honor; for the LORD shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh. 10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him.”

The Watchwoman on The Wall

In the 2nd chapter of Joshua, verses 14-15, a harlot saved the spies sent by Joshua, to whom the Lord had said in Joshua 6:2…

“See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, [and] the mighty men of valour.” So Joshua received the vision and charge from the Lord, saying “Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.”

And God used a woman to protect his investment, to fulfill his purpose. No matter what you may have done in your life, don’t you ever think God can’t use you. The woman who hid the spies was one who may have been called the least of all sisters. She may have been called the chief of all sinners like Paul said that he was. If you had known about that woman in her day, about her lifestyle, you would likely have said she was not worthy to be God’s right hand; but if God can make a mule speak to save a man’s life, I know He can use a woman.

Remember that God looks at the heart of every person. We may have seen that woman and thought that she was ordinary. But the Bible says, in Joshua the 2nd chapter, the 15th verse, that this particular woman let the spies down through a window of her house using a cord, because,

…her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.

The wall is the first line of defense against the enemy. Do you know who dwells upon the wall? The watchman. When I was 23 years old, the Word of the Lord came to me like Ezekiel, the 33rd chapter, and the 7th verse. God said,

“… I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.”

JUDGES 4:1-10

“And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, when Ehud was dead.

If there is a woman here who will join me in saying yes to the Lord’s will; who can say, “Lord, whatever you have for me to do, reveal your will to me, and I will trust you and obey,” let’s receive it in prayer. And if there is any man, who is willing to support these women in Christ by praying for them and helping them to be a light for other women to see that God is raising up a generation that will obey, then receive it in prayer.”
