For Future Generations

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. 8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8

Reflection

God honors those who honor Him. Your life in His will is a blessing not only to you, but also to your future generations. In today’s reading, God promised to punish His own people because they had begun worshipping idol gods as if those gods had been their deliver. They rejected the true God and cause others to turn away their hearts from Him.

God is all about family. What you teach your children about Him is important to Him. He wants you to recall His goodness to you and to teach your future generations to also honor Him as you do. This is our inheritance: the knowledge of and the relationship with the boundless God. If we choose not to share our faith with our families, we are stunting their future. Worse, if we choose not to worship God ourselves, we will inadvertently cause His memory to be uprooted in the lives of our descendants.

A generation that forgets God is destined for destruction. The longer the memory lapse continues, the more the enemy will have an influence in the history of the people.

There is a world of desperation that needs the light of Christ. We are carriers of that light. When we wake up to reality of God’s role in our lives – our creator and our redeemer in whose hand is life itself, we have to be a light for future generations.
